EVER HAPPENED

“Moving on, John is forced to confront the inevitable and comes face to face with his greatest fear, reality.”

The Story:

A dedicated husband cares for his sick wife with a daily routine of bearing tea and toast. While nursing her back to health, terrible memories creep into his delusion and break his monotony. Denial takes on physical form, forcing him to challenge his own state. Battling guilt, regret, and paucity of his own self worth, he is forced to accept the reality that he buried long ago.

The History:

Loosely based on real life events, this project became an emotional challenge for the filmmaker himself. Michael Cody not only directed, shot, and edited this project, but wrote it as well. In an effort to detach the film from actual events, he stretched and dramatized his own memories into a story that now bares the title “Ever Happened”. In addition to facing his own past in the story, the production itself paralleled the tale on many levels. The character in the film battles his own inner demons about past failures, and it was no different for Michael. “Ever Happened” is the filmmaker's first completed film in over 14 years. Throughout the struggle to create this film, he questioned every step of the way. He engaged his own “Feared One” disguised as both failure and success...all the while wondering if, after so many years, it could ever happen.

The Conflictory:

The completed piece that this page so far explains is not its original form. “Ever Happened” began as a short, six page script written to bring the collaboration of Michael and his long time filmmaking counterparts, Zeke Anders and Kevin G. Knox together again. During the production of the first version, the camera and footage within was stolen from the set. With the production put on hold, Michael decided to turn inward and revise the script to something more heart-felt. The result is what this webpage is all about. The collaboration did not go unearthed, as Zeke's voice can be heard on an answering machine in the current version, and Mr. Knox composed all the film's original scores.
